Ms. Varatha began her career as a manager, QC Microbiology with Novopharm Toronto (TEVA) in the year 1980 after completing her graduate studies in UK. She is proud to say that she is the first Tamil employee at TEVA and potentially one of the first Tamil professional who started their career in the pharmaceutical industry. After Teva, she worked for other brand name companies such as MDS Nordian where she held the position of “Corporate Director Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Safety and Environment” and at Biovail Corporation as the “Vice President of Quality Compliance”. In 2001, she founded a privately owned pharmaceutical lab, Innopharam in Markham with her brother and role model, Dr. Elagupillai. Innopharm was later acquired by CPL Pharma Ltd. She continued to work for CPL Pharma as the General Manager & Vice President of Technical & Quality Operations. After CPL, she joined Sanofi Pasteur in 2007. At. Sanofi, She is currently responsible for leading pre-clinical quality compliance activities for North America as the Head, R&D Quality Operations for preclinical activities.

Subo graduated with a doctoral degree in cancer research from the Biophysics Department at University of Toronto in 2008. After her doctoral work, she joined a startup in 2008 as a research scientist to help identify therapeutic drugs for cancer treatment. In this position, she was responsible for developing novel biological assay including cell-based assays and biochemical assays to investigate mechanism of action of drugs. She was also involved in the design and development of correlative studies for clinical trials and technical support of the same studies. She also identified and validated biomarkers to assess drug efficacy. She is currently working as a Product Development manager at a Toronto-based invitro diagnostics company, SQI Diagnostics, where she helps translate research-stage products to commercially viable products. This translation work utilizes her scientific training and business acumen.

She possesses extensive expertise and knowledge of Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Formulation, Validation, Technology Transfer, Manufacturing Technology, Process Improvements, Auditing and Inspection. In the past fifteen years, Rathi has held strategic management roles in major Canadian name brand/generic pharmaceutical companies. Validation Specialist at Novartis Inc., Validation Scientist at Patheon Inc., Validation Services Manager at Sanofi Pasteur Limited, Validation Specialist at CibaVision, and Validation Quality Engineer (Consultant) at iPOC, QA Director at CMAX Technologies, and QAP Consultant at Green Amber Canada were few to be named.
